Groundwork is invisible once it's done, which is exactly why it's the first thing people are tempted to skimp on. We dig footings to the depth the ground actually needs, deal with clay heave and tree roots, and get drainage falls right the first time.
We take on standalone groundwork packages as well as the groundwork for our own extensions and landscaping — excavation, muck away, concrete, drainage, ducting and hardstanding.

Groundwork & Drainage — common questions
- How deep do foundations need to be?
- It depends on soil type and nearby trees — on Chiltern clay it's often considerably deeper than the standard minimum. We dig to what the ground and Building Control require.
- Can you fix a garden that floods?
- Usually yes. It's normally a mix of levels, compacted ground and no soakaway. We diagnose the cause rather than just adding a gully and hoping.
- Do you have machinery?
- Yes, we operate our own mini diggers and dumpers, and we bring in larger plant where access allows.
